Paranormal State: York, PA Hell’s Gate
Wes, a 33 year-old male from York, PA contacted the PRS team of Paranormal State when he began having problems with paranormal activity in his new house. Some of the claims include the feelings of being touched (Wes’ son actually felt a smack on the back of the head), black shadows, feelings of oppression, objects moving and objects disappearing. All of the activity had the young family move into a hotel. Wes is a recovering addict who had his arm severed and reattached in a work related(?) accident. The foreshadowing seems to insinuate that in his weakened state, Wes is a vulnerable candidate for a demonic possession. And the story is set up.
Wes believes he is the one that brought on the activity because of a tattoo on his back picturing the gateway of hell (necropolis). He was told by his church that even something such as the tattoo could serve as a portal of entry. Let me pause right here to tell you all that if this is true, my house should be particularly riddled with negative entities and numerous gateways. One day I’ll post some of my artwork here so you can see what I mean. But I digress.
Psychic/medium Chip Coffey confirms the feelings of oppression when he dis his walk-through of the property. During dead time, there wasn’t a lot of activity. There was however a confession of sorts. Probed by Coffey about what the entity communicates to Wes that he did not disclose earlier, Wes enlightens the PRS team that the entity has asked him to kill his whole family. With this new homicidal information, Ryan Buell arranges for an emergency meeting with a counselor and medical doctor to further evaluate Wes’ emotional well being. Wes checked out clean and showed no immediate signs of mental illness in the opinion of the doctor they consulted with.
During the next dead time, Sergey the techno-mage of the PRS team whips out an Ovilus. This is a machine which translates temperature, EMF and ELF readings into a number. Each number is assigned an associated word. So, a programmer basically decided what words go with what readings on a thermometer. Now the paranormal investigators are going to interpret their environment by this standard. When Ryan asked “what kind of force are you?” the Ovilus answers “Demon.”
Ryan consulted with “Demonologist” Lorraine Warren by phone, who recommends the family get a priest to the house immediately. The priest came and said his shpeel and Wes, once again, began to feel the heaviness and sadness inside that he claimed was not from himself. The priest focused on Wes. He prayed and sprayed (yes, Holy Water now comes in a convenient spray bottle!) on the tattooed bandit until poor Wes puked on the floor. He then felt lighter and free from the oppression.
While this episode ends in a positive direction for the PRS clients, I’m left scratching my head. I love to credit the Paranormal Research Society whenever possible with being progressive in their approach, and they continue to deliver with the use of new types of equipment. This one item however, the Ovilus…..I think the jury is still out on. I’m glad the guy feels better, and if PRS helped him get there, that’s great!
