Ghost Adventures in Castillo de San Marcos, St. Augustine, FL

Ghost Adventures

Last night on Ghost Adventures, Zak Bagans, Aaron Goodwin and Nick Groff took on the Soldier’s Quarters in the oldest city in America, St. Augustine, Florida.  St. Augustine was settled by the Spanish in 1565.  Castillo de San Marcos prison was infamously known for the torturing deaths of French Protestants, British and Native Americans.  Among the claims of paranormal activity at the location, there are full-bodied apparitions, screams, marching footsteps, and floating heads!

Staff and tourists have reported:

  • apparition of a man carrying lantern by the cannon deck
  • apparition of Andrew Ranson, a ruthless English pirate, appeared on an investigators camera
  • Famous beheaded Seminole Chief Ocseola’s head floats about

The guys also took a tour of Anastasia Island where the massacre at Matanzas took place trying to convert French Protestants to Catholicism.  Anyone who refused to convert was murdered on the beach. (hmmm this behavior sounds a lot like the same religious terrorism that takes place in the modern world, doesn’t it?)  Zak gathers a sample of sand from the beach where the line in the sand was literally drawn before the massacre began.  Zak thinks this sand will be like holy water to a demon….right.

Lock-down:

Zak sets up the Electromagnetic pump, which sends out electromagnetic pulses into the room.  Supposedly, ghosts like to/need to absorb this type of energy field in order to help them manifest.  Wait….I though ghosts gave off EMFs?  If ghosts have such a hard time manifesting even the weakest, faintest versions of themselves, how is it they have so much residual electromagnetic energy that it can be measured with an EMF meter?  Just one of the many things I think about and question.

Shortly after setting up the EM pump and a stationary camera, they heard a scream coming from the shackle room/bone room in the prison.  This was pretty audible on their hand held camera.

They go in to investigate, when Zak feels an ice-cold breeze blast through his back/neck.  His response to this was classic Zak Bagans and just priceless. He takes a deep breath and blows as hard as he can, to show the guys how strong the breeze was that knocked him over and made him drop his camera. rofl

Cut over to Aaron Goodwin.  Aaron in tha mutha f’n hoooouse!!  He starts hearing whispers that the other two investigators don’t hear.  Zak deduces that since only Aaron hears the whispers, the spirits are now focusing their energies on him.  The audio picks up an unintelligible evp of a male voice.

Zak begins to re-enact his sado-masochistic fantasies with chains and shackles against the wall when he is suddenly freaked out by a throaty sounding gurgle.  Later, Aaron goes upstairs to retrieve some equipment when he hears heavy footsteps running up behind him.  You can hear him freaking out, big boy style, from a stationary camera near by.

Zak begins provoking the Spanish ghosts and says he’s gonna “siege” their fort. Yes, he said siege….LOL.  Cut him some slack, he’s a TV ghost hunter, not an English Professor. Tongue out  Then he busts a move with his English to Spanish dictionary, yelling “assasino!”, sprinkles the sand around that he gathered from the Anastasia Island beach and dares the ghosts to “attakay” him.  Hehehehehe.

While the guys are walking around this underground brick and mortar compound, they complain of cold spots and bad smells all over the place.  Don’t most people feel cold spots beneath the earth???? Ever been in a basement lately?  Changes in humidity WILL produce naturally occurring cold spots.

Another piece of equipment they put into play is the Ovilus.  This contraption measures temperatures and other types of energy fields and translates the readings into audible words.  Yeah, I know…. stay with me though.  The word-machine kicks in and annunciates “pray.”  As they begin to leave another area, they hear the Ovilus say  “not turn” and  “upstairs”…so up they go to the deck and set up static camera that  picks up flickering light that resembles someone lighting a lantern, then walking away.

After the investigation, the GA crew takes their data to Eastern Pennsylvania’s Bob Christopher for help with analyzing their findings.  Bob reviews what they have and feels it is all residual haunting activity.  Once again, the Ghost Adventures crew succeeds in delivering the entertainment.  Some evidence was a little sketchy, but the EVPs were definitely interesting.
