The “We Only Use 10% of the Brain” Myth

The Human Brain courtesy of headinjuryrehab.orgYep, you read the headline right.  It is a myth that we only use 10% of our gray matter.   So for those of you out there who have been told that  as an argument in favor of having mysterious psychic powers - don’t believe it!  Want sources?  I thought you’d never ask!

Behold:

The Ten-Percent Myth

Do People Only Use 10 Percent of Their Brain?

Brain Myths-Busted

Neuroscience for Kids - 10% of the Brain Myth

So, what percentage do we use, if not ten, you may ask?  The answer is 100%.  Over the course of time (that means evolution is at work) the human brain has developed and expanded to the point that we have the largest brain of the animal kingdom, in proportion to our bodies.  If we weren’t using all of that gray matter, it would have gotten smaller, not larger.

I do believe there are people out there that do practice using only 10 percent of their brain…but that is another post Tongue out

Be careful though, as George Orwell once said: “Myths which are believed in tend to become true…”
